High School Spanish Conversation Lab

Grades 9–12 | Length:  28 weeks (14 per semester)  | Day: Tuesday

This is a year long class, but charged by the semester

Course Overview

This course is designed as a high school Spanish conversation lab that partners with the Power-Glide Spanish curriculum (required). Students will complete daily lessons at home using Power-Glide, then meet weekly for an hour to practice speaking, listening, and applying Spanish in a lively, interactive environment.

Our focus is on communication and confidence, not just memorizing grammar rules. Through games, role-plays, cultural activities, and small group practice, students will learn to think in Spanish and express themselves in meaningful ways.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Hold basic conversations entirely in Spanish

  • Use vocabulary and grammar structures for everyday topics

  • Understand spoken Spanish in classroom-level dialogues

  • Gain exposure to Spanish-speaking cultures

  • Develop the confidence to communicate in another language

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do we need to buy a separate book or program?

✅ Yes. Each family needs to purchase the Power-Glide Spanish curriculum. This is the primary teaching tool your student will use at home. The weekly lab simply brings it to life.

How much work is required outside of class?

Students should plan to complete short Power-Glide lessons 3–4 days each week, typically 20–30 minutes per session. This keeps them learning steadily and prepared to participate in class.

How do students turn in their homework?

Assignments are submitted online through our learning platform (or by email, if applicable). This provides accountability and makes it easy to track progress.

What if my student is nervous about speaking Spanish?

That’s perfectly normal! This class is a safe, supportive space where mistakes are expected and celebrated — it’s the best way to learn. Over time, students become more comfortable speaking spontaneously.

Is this enough for a high school foreign language credit?

Yes. When combined with the Power-Glide program and the structured at-home work, this course meets or exceeds the standard for one high school Spanish credit.

Will there be letter grades?

✅ Yes. We provide grades based on homework, participation, tests, and small projects. This makes it easy to add to homeschool transcripts.

What if we fall behind at home?

Consistent daily work is important for language learning. If a student starts falling behind, we’ll work together on a plan to catch up — the goal is steady progress, not perfection.

Ready to learn Spanish in a fun, interactive way?

We can’t wait to see your student in class!

✅ If you’d like, I can also create:

  • A one-page summary flyer for quick marketing

  • A weekly pacing guide tied to Power-Glide chapters

  • Or even a student contract outlining responsibilities and goals.

Your Instructor

Jennifer Garcia

Hello! My name is Jennifer Garcia. I graduated from Bellevue University and spent many years in the tech industry, working as a software engineer for IBM, Alpha Telecom, and Hexagon Public Safety, as well as serving as a contractor for the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador. My work took me all over, giving me a broad, global perspective and a deep appreciation for how technology, creativity, and human connection shape our world.

Throughout those years, I was also homeschooling — balancing my professional career while raising and educating my four children. It’s been a journey of more than 20 years, filled with big questions, hands-on projects, and countless kitchen-table lessons. Today, my oldest is a physicist specializing in astrophysics and theoretical physics, a path that began with backyard experiments and a love for learning.

Now, I channel all of that experience into teaching and designing courses that spark curiosity and confidence — from Spanish and creative writing to computer science, math, and immersive STEAM programs. I also serve as president of Timeless Homeschool Events Cullman, creating memorable experiences for teens and families through proms, themed dances, and immersive mystery parties. Additionally, I direct Alabama STEAM Academy, building programs that make education personal, meaningful, and community-driven.

At the heart of it all is my belief that education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life. It’s more than academics — it’s about nurturing curiosity, building character, and growing together. I look forward to sharing this incredible learning journey with your family!
