Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer homeschool students the opportunity to engage in college-level academics, strengthen their transcripts, and potentially earn college credit. Our teacher-guided AP courses are designed specifically for homeschoolers, combining expert instruction with flexible scheduling to support success. These courses can be listed on transcripts as “Courses for AP,” but to receive official AP credit, students must register for and take the AP exam through the College Board at an approved testing site.

Mr. Avram E. Berman MAT/European History
Mr. Avram Berman grew up in northern New Jersey where he attended and graduated from Solomon Schechter Day School in West Orange. He then went on to attend Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania where he served as the Religious and Ritual Chair of the Hillel for 3.5 years and earned his bachelor’s degree in European and Jewish History. Avram then went on to gain his Masters of Arts in Teaching with New Jersey Certification in secondary Social Studies education from Montclair State University, and a Masters in European and Jewish History. Since completing his formal studies, Mr. Berman has been on 1 on 1 tutor, guest lectured at the college level and taught grades 4-12 at the religious school and day school levels. He has also led T’filot (Prayer) and High Holiday services and is fluent in both written and spoken Hebrew, ancient and modern. Furthermore, Avram has developed and taught the curricula for several courses and special programs. He has been independently teaching and creating virtual homeschool curriculum in history for the past four academic years.

In this class we will take a look that origins and influences throughout history that make certain authors and writers tick, when they translate the historical events in which they live and work through. We will also analyze and explore the common themes and archetypes that appear in their collective works, and discuss why they have chosen to write in the medium of the fantastical. It gives great pride and pleasure to offer this course once again, as an homage to my late grandfather and mentor, the renowned scholar and Biblical archeologist, Rabbi Martin S. Rozenberg. Throughout this semester long class, we will explore a vast number of fascinating ancient civilizations and cultures across the known world at the time that their great Empires flourished. Viewing the world through the lens of these culture’s spheres of influence, we will discuss the political, economic, social, religious, military, and artistic innovations and both then and their contributions to our society today. During the class we will be covering the following
topics and civilizations:
Chapter 1: Introduction and Uncovering the Past:
