For a personal family party, you have flexibility. For a group graduation, shorter is usually better because every graduate may be represented.

Mix Formal and Ordinary Moments

Senior portraits are beautiful, but the images families remember most are often ordinary ones: reading on the couch, building something in the garage, playing with siblings, competing with a team, laughing with friends, or working at a first job.

Homeschool senior slideshows have the freedom to show the education that happened outside a school building.

Field trips, co-op friends, dual enrollment, travel, performances, service, apprenticeships, sports, clubs, and hobbies can all belong.

Select music that fits the graduate and the event. Pay attention to lyrics, especially if the slideshow will be shown at a public or family ceremony.

If you plan to post the finished video online, music licensing may affect whether the platform allows the audio to remain.

Do Not Embarrass the Graduate

Ask before using pictures your senior would genuinely hate to have shown publicly. Childhood photos can be sweet without turning the slideshow into a roast.

End With the Future

Finish with one of the senior portraits, a graduation image, future plans, a favorite quotation, or a simple message from the family.

Back It Up

Save the final slideshow in more than one place. Keep the original photos too. Years from now, this may become one of the family’s favorite graduation keepsakes.
