There are obvious senior milestones: the last first day of school, senior pictures, the final exam, graduation day.

You Do Not Need to Make It Monumental

Knowing it is the “last” can create pressure to make everything perfect. Resist that.

Your senior probably does not need an elaborate final-high-school Christmas production. They may simply need the family traditions they already love.

Repeat Something Familiar

Make the cookies. Watch the ridiculous movie. Drive to see lights. Wear the same old pajamas. Let them complain while helping decorate the tree.

Traditions matter partly because they are ordinary enough to repeat.

Take a Few Pictures With Everyone In Them

Use the timer. Hand the phone to someone else. Get Mom in the picture. Get Dad in the picture. Get the siblings together even if somebody rolls their eyes.

You do not need hundreds. You need a few that actually include the people who made the memory.

By next year, the graduate may be in college, working nights, living elsewhere, training, traveling, or simply living on a very different schedule.
