Every great scientific discovery begins with a question. In Expedition Science, students retrace the paths of explorers, inventors, naturalists, and researchers whose discoveries changed the way we understand the world.

Each week begins with a new scientific expedition inspired by real people, places, and moments in science history. Students may investigate animal adaptations alongside Charles Darwin, study motion through the work of Galileo, explore natural observation with Jane Goodall, examine buoyancy through ocean exploration, or design landing systems inspired by space missions.

Through hands-on experiments, engineering challenges, field observations, and collaborative research missions, students will explore life science, earth science, chemistry, physics, and engineering. They will learn to ask questions, develop hypotheses, record observations, analyze results, and communicate scientific conclusions in an age-appropriate field journal.

This semester-long course combines science, history, storytelling, and experimentation to help students understand not only what scientists discovered, but how discovery happens.

Students are expected to:

• Participate safely and responsibly in all laboratory activities.

• Record observations, hypotheses, and results in a science notebook.

• Work cooperatively with classmates during experiments and engineering challenges.

• Complete each investigation to the best of their ability.

• Participate in class discussions as they share discoveries and scientific conclusions.
