This hands-on course introduces students to the foundational elements of visual art while allowing each artist to grow at their own pace. Through guided instruction and creative projects, students will explore line, shape, form, value (shading), color, texture, space, composition, perspective, and age-appropriate figure drawing.
Designed as a mixed-age class, lessons are structured so every student can succeed. Beginning artists will build confidence by mastering the fundamentals, while more experienced students will be challenged with advanced techniques, greater artistic independence, and more complex projects. Students will develop observation skills, creativity, problem-solving, and an understanding of the principles and elements of art that form the foundation for future artistic growth.
Classroom instruction includes demonstrations, guided projects, interactive discussion, and regular in-class critiques to help students understand artistic concepts and refine their skills in a supportive studio environment.
Students are expected to:
Complete their work in class to the best of their ability.
Arrive with required personal materials and any assigned outside work completed.
Participate respectfully in class discussions and critiques, as constructive feedback is an important part of the creative process.
Encourage and support fellow artists while celebrating each other's unique artistic styles.
